Design Wall Monday

I had scrap quilting club meeting on Saturday and got to finish my Shakespeare in the Park top. Yeah!  Because I used three colors instead of the two that done in Judy Martin's directions, I had to plan each row.  It was very exhausting, but well worth the extra effort.  Sorry, I didn't get a chance to take the blue tape off before taking the picture.  I'm really, really liking this one. I think I will send it to a professional long arm machine quilter for finishing; it deserves some fancy stitching.

Because I'm addicted to UFOs, I started another project last week!  I will make a quick tutorial of how I pieced the blocks soon.

Have a great day!  To see more design walls, visit www.patchworktimes.com.

Scrap Quilting Club 10/27/2012

We had a wonderful time at scrap quilting club.  We had a good variety of project show up as we near the end of the year.  Enjoy the virtual quilt show.

Thanks for completing the yearlong project Connie.  It also reminds me that I need to make my corners! LOL

Design Wall Monday - Move Alongs

I have a very productive week.  I started quilting the If the Hat Fits quilt. I could have finished it if I hadn't decided to change thread to match each fabric while quilting something different in each area.  I don't have a photo of it in progress but hopefully it will be done by Halloween; it will not be hung this year but at least it will be a finished project.

One of the exciting events in my weekend occurred when I attended the Missouri State Quilters Guild retreat for the first time. Click on the link for more details. I worked on a lot of WIPs that have while I was working on them I called them "move alongs".  First up is the snails trail quilt by Judy Martin with a little twist.  I've been working on it for a while but the setting triangles coloring is persnickety and I have to work on them row by row. This side I have pieced prior to retreat.
At retreat I completed setting triangles for three rows and one corner.  I now have this sewn together.  I must have miscalculated the pieces needed when cutting as I ran out of pieces at retreat and didn't have the extra fabrics with me.  Maybe one more retreat and this center can "move along".

I finished my spicy spiral table runner which was a class I took at retreat. This is for my mom.

And because I stayed focused in class, I finished my table runner in class and was able to work on my scrappy triangles. I have four of seven rows sewn into rows.

Back in the hotel room, I worked on another long ago project that I cut.  I realized as I was pulling out the pieces that I cut 32 pieces the wrong size.  Oh, what do I do?  I went back downstairs to the quilt vendors and purchase fat quarters so I could re-cut them "the correct way".  I have 13 of 32 blocks sewn; one more seams and the blocks will done.  I think I will make this into two quilts for family members.  The pattern is Wicked Easy Quilts.

Missouri State Quilters Guild Retreat

On Friday I left work three hours early to go to a quilt retreat organized by the Missouri State Quilters Guild.  I had been a member for about 3 years and I think my membership lapsed for about a year or two.  I'd always wanted to go but could never coordinate the dates into my schedule or couldn't get my friends' schedules to fit.  Well, this year it fit my schedule and I decided to attend. I had so much fun.  The hotel was great, the food was great (except for the extra strong coffee), the company was exceptional and I met old and new friends alike.  I'm going to work very hard to keep my schedule open to attend next year.

I've NEVER been to a retreat with almost 150 participants. It wasn't even in my imagination!  The organizers under Pat Smith's direction did a fantastic job. It takes many hands to pull off a wonderful event. Thank you to all the workers this weekend.

One-half of the participants during the Jelly Roll Race. I didn't participate but about eleven people did.  It was a hoot.

I took the Spicy Spiral Table Runner class.  I enjoyed the class and the process so much so that I plan to make a few more. I have a few photos of the class results, with my quilt being first. I'm making it for my mom who loves neutral colors.

Then, we had a scrappy hat contest. I took photos of some of my favorites around my sitting area.  A few of them are winners, but I can't remember which one is which.  However, the nest won first place.

The retreat chairperson gave her hat to one of the severs (I think his name is David) and he humored us and put it on and did a fancy bow.
For the challenge quilt, this was viewer's choice.

Here is the raffle table. Can't see all the products, Here are three more shots with close up. I just had to buy a set of tickets. And I did.

See that sewing machine, I could use that for traveling, or how about the Rowenta traveling irons, I could use them too.

I love fabric too, or how about updating some of my rulers.  See  that Ott Lite i the back. Oh my, I must purchase more tickets. And I did get more.

Now, who don't need more storage containers and the flowers were even up for grabs.

I'm trying to be cool, but in my head I hear "Oh, please call me number and call it early as I really, really want one of those travel iron.

My number got called, but not early enough to get the irons or the sewing machine.  I did get some pretty dot fabrics I had my eyes on as well.

This post doesn't even begin to show everything that happened at retreat  I was having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures. We received very nice welcome packets, door prizes a lot of intangible items that a monetary value couldn't be placed.  We have wonder quilt shops from around the state supply our need to purchase "just one more item" LOL, display quilts, etc.

Design Wall Monday

This is how I ended my Sunday, with knee pads on. Why?

Well, I finished my It The Hat Fits quilt top and had to baste it.

I even got the extra block made into a little wall hanging too!  It's already quilted, awaiting binding.
Then I started working on a new string quilt as I was piecing the previous quilts together.  Aren't they pretty? These were left over batik fabrics left over when I was making jelly rolls.  I will make a lot more triangles and then decide what to do with them.
