Design Wall Monday

I had Scrap Quilting Club meeting on Saturday.  We had a lot of show and tell.  To see those quilts, click the link.

My week was spent prepping for the Saturday class.  Remember those scrappy rail fence blocks I made last month?  Of course not, here is a photo.

Well, I made two quilt tops with them.  The left side blocks made this Red Cross Quilt.  I purposely used ugly fabrics that did not necessarily match.  I was pleasantly surprised with the end result.  The center was a little dark so I added a bright border.

And here are the blocks on the right side.  I cut both sets of blocks the same way, but sewed them back together a little differently.  The end result looks like wrenches to me without the handle.  So, I named this one From Rails to Wrenches.  I set these blocks side by side for a different variation.
Very interesting, huh?  I plan to use these in my scrap quilt lectures.

  1. Another fabulous scrap quilt! Took me a while but I figured out what you did. :) Clever and fabulous! If I lived closer, you know I would be right there in your club!

  5. Ok, how did you go from rail fence to what you have. You must have cut them digonally? Very nice! I am never that creative.

  8. It took me awhile...and I had to draft a block to see what you did. Terrific idea. I like both setting but especially like the way the second one where the block to block setting forms a small hour glass block where the corners meet. Nice!!

  9. I am still confused as how you got from A to B but those quilts are fabulous. That is a lecture I would love to attend.

  10. Wonderful block play. The light border adds so much to the one side of the quilt. Scrappy is best, even with "ugly" fabric :)
