More Videos and WIP

I've been busy with quilting projects.  I think I mentioned that I have some challenge projects that I will share with you later this month.  In addition, I've uploaded two more videos:

Here is a photo of my Gypsy Convergence (Gypsy's Wife) quilt that I quilted.  I now need to find an appropriate binding fabric and then I can remove this from my list of things to do.

I'm involved in some home improvement projects as well but the weather keeps interrupting the schedule.  We did hire a contractor to replace our front porch.  While it's wonderful to have the porch updated, it calls for me to repaint the door step, door, and regrade the area around the steps with mulch and grass seeds.  I'm finding that when you fix one thing, something else gets added to the list of to-dos.  I've power washed the deck and back of the house and repainted the awning.  Now I need to replace and seal some of  the decking and complete power washing the rest of the house.  All I can say, is that I'm never idle around here.  I feel like I may have missed a completed project, but I will need to read through my blog to make sure.

My Weekend, Finished Projects, Design Wall Monday

I attended the Round Bobbin Expo on Saturday. Actually, my guild had a booth that I staffed for an hour or so.  I saw the funniest quilt, Haunted by UFOs that I had to share.  While I'm definitely not stressed about having well over 125 works in progress it did make me stop for a moment to think about them.  I even counted how many UFOs are completed quilt tops.  I found 20 quilts that need backs made and another 17 with backs made ready for quilting.

I finished the binding on four quilts today!  Yeah!!! Mon Sheri Waves, available at the following link, www.robertkaufman.com/assets/pdf/mon_sheri_waves_tutorial_final.pdf,is a project assigned to the Scrap Quilting Club in May.  I brought my GO! Cutter to the meeting and anyone that wanted to participate could cut their drunkards path blocks with the die. I did make a modification and added setting triangles all the way around instead of chopping off the sides as instructed in the pattern.

Tumbling Frolics is finally finished. I have a tutorial on cutting fabrics with the GO! Cutter on my blog I uploaded in October 2010. I really like this quilt and don't know why I didn't quilt it sooner.  The binding was relatively easy to sew, just cut a stripe fabric on the bias and then sewed in a slight curve fashion along the edges; worked for me!

In 2001 I made a Butterfly Kaleidoscope (scroll down and look on right) stack and whack quilt. I've always been a saver and user of scraps.  When I cut the first angle to get 45 degree angle, I cut the scraps into squares. After making the quilt, I pieced this quilt top, putting stars around the kaleidoscope squares.  It's been sitting the the quilting pile all these years.  Boy am I glad this one is completed.

I made this rail fence quilt top for my brother in February of 2010 but never got it quilted.  I thinks he's finally ready for his quilt. LOL  

I sewed some more on my line dance t-shirt quilt. I'm working on adding a photo border all the way around. I have two sides made, taking up 6 hours of my sewing time.  I sure didn't think it would take so long to make this border.  I decided to put it aside to work on bindings instead. As I look at this picture during the upload, there is definitely no space to rest the eyes on this quilt!

My day...

As I start typing this post, it's 11:53 p.m.  Don't quite know why I not asleep other that I'm excited with how my day progressed.

First, I posted about the bath remodel earlier in the week but received spam comments advertising remodeling supplies and services.  I attempted to delete the comments from my phone and instead deleted the post. Anyway, the most exciting part of my day was the completing of the bath remodel.  I guess I was too exhausted with the waiting to take finished photos; will upload a few.  Here is one wall from the previous post that was mistakenly deleted prior to grouting.  About Wednesday, I was getting a little testy with the inconvenience so I'm really excited that it's all over; it took almost two weeks.







My other exciting event was using a friend's long arm machine to quilt a few quilts.  Yesterday I pieced backs and cut batting for seven quilt tops. Here are photos of two of them on the frame; forgot to take the third photo.  I plan to go back tomorrow to quilt another 2-3 quilts, depending upon time. In my WIP stack, I have over 30 quilts that need quilting.

Finishes

Just a quick post to document a couple of finishes.

I've been quilting a little this week.  I finished my Red Cross Quilt and then found the perfect red binding fabric in my stash.  You can read more about how these blocks were made by going to a prior post regarding scrappy rail fence blocks.

Then I got this ABC finished that I started last week.  It had the binding finished and even has a label on the back.

Design Wall Monday

I had Scrap Quilting Club meeting on Saturday.  We had a lot of show and tell.  To see those quilts, click the link.

My week was spent prepping for the Saturday class.  Remember those scrappy rail fence blocks I made last month?  Of course not, here is a photo.

Well, I made two quilt tops with them.  The left side blocks made this Red Cross Quilt.  I purposely used ugly fabrics that did not necessarily match.  I was pleasantly surprised with the end result.  The center was a little dark so I added a bright border.

And here are the blocks on the right side.  I cut both sets of blocks the same way, but sewed them back together a little differently.  The end result looks like wrenches to me without the handle.  So, I named this one From Rails to Wrenches.  I set these blocks side by side for a different variation.

Very interesting, huh?  I plan to use these in my scrap quilt lectures.

Design Wall Monday

First quilting project completed was hand sewing the binding on Asian Influence.  After that I went to work on the remaining siggy blocks for the wedding quilt, especially seeing as the wedding was nearing.  I made 100 more siggy blocks.  Of the 200 blocks, I have 150 of them signed.  Now I have to wait until the happy couple return from their honeymoon to view the blocks before sewing them into a quilt.  Also, some guests attended the wedding but not the reception so I'll give them the extra blocks so they can collect a few more signatures.

I spent my lunch hours last week cutting pieces for two rail fence quilts.  The blocks on the left are cut from 2.5" strips and the blocks on the right are cut from 3" strips.  I made 24 of each set although only 22 show in the picture.  They may not look like much now, but I plan to manipulate them a bit.  This will be a project for my scrap quilting club in August.  I have to work a month ahead to provide them with a cutting list.

Now, for the exciting part.  Yesterday I pulled red fabrics to make this Pineapple Nine Patch quilt.  The design is by Cathy Wierzbicki in a book titled, "Geometric Gems by That Patchwork Place."  I've only cut a few units from 5 of the 15 red fabrics I plan to use.  The pattern recommends using 12 fabrics but I added a few more in the mix as we scrap quilters tend to do.  This is a big quilt and I plan to work on it in stages.  Anyone with the book who is interested in working on this project with me, leave a comment.  If I get a few requests, I'll make a schedule for us to work on each week with links to the blogs.  You must have the book, as I'm not giving cutting or sewing directions.  This quilt is so pretty that I want to have one too...
